Breaking Barrier

Elanchezhiyan looks at traditional, perennially-interesting subjects with a contemporary mind-set. His subject portrayal is mostly of feminine forms and depicts them in varied stances of rigorous motion. The empowerment of LU women and their right to equality with men in all spheres, a notion the artist fervorly finds faith in, instantly becomes the inspiration for Elanchezhiyan's sculptures.
His sculptural works narrate women as practitioner of the martial art of 'Kalari' or engaged in bull fighting sports, 'Jallikattu'; tasks till date considered suitable only for men. The imagery of bull satiated in vigor and pride is beautifully complimented by the graceful female rider, performing the formidable task in utmost panache. Elanchezhiyan's women soar through the entirety of episodes, as marked gestures of their liberation and inner strength.
"The male chauvinist brands women folk as "an innocent being" and hinders the growth of the women by any and every suppressive way Let women have their own as it is their own freedom. Who am I to stand in their way? In my vision the woman is a symbol of valor, Symbol of courage, Symbol of wisdom and what not ... that is why I have introduced them in Kalari and Jallikattu"
